8th annual Gala helps BC children and families live with courage
The 8th Annual Canuck Place Gift of Time Gala presented by TELUS was held at the Westin Bayshore on October 27, 2012. Over $700,000 was raised to support critical palliative care to children and families from across British Columbia. The evening was hosted by Global TV's Chris Gailus and QMFM's Tara McGuire, and featured up-and-coming singer Cody Karey and Friends and the St. James Music Academy Choir. Canuck Place Board Chair John Rose, Canuck Place CEO Margaret McNeil gave their words of thanks to the wonderful and generous community that surrounds Canuck Place, while family speakers Nelia and Andrew Evans shared their moving story of their daughter Grace.
Spectacular auctioneer Howard Blank helped move more than ten live auction items and a special Fund-a-Need section with the help of Ritchie Bros. Over 600 guests were seated at elegant tables with “Blossoms of Hope” bowls created by the children at Canuck Place. Generous donors invested in lifts needed for Canuck Place Abbotsford, the organization’s second hospice due to be complete in late 2013.
Gala Co-Chairs Karen Bowering and Claire Newell and their active committee had over 350 items in the silent and live auction. Guests appearances were made by Canucks Alumni President Gerry Sillers, Sportsnet/TEAM 1040 Canucks play-by-play man John Shorthouse and sideline Sportsnet reporter Dan Murphy. Guests danced the evening away and tipped the 1 am mark with the live band, Dr. Strangelove.
Thank you to everyone who supported this year's Gala - we couldn't have done it without you!
