Families enjoy a Nutcracker-themed event

Winter Family Festival 2011

On the first Sunday in December, over 350 children, families, staff and volunteers gathered under the sunny skies for the Canuck Place Children’s Hospice annual Winter Family Festival.  View photos

This year’s event featured a Nutcracker-inspired theme complete with the Sugar Plum Fairy, Nutcracker and Mouse King.   The crowd was entertained with a variety of crafts and activities as well as musical entertainment by North Shore All Stars, Janna Sailor with the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, pianist Aydan Con from the Vancouver Academy of Music, and the ‘Canuck Place Carolers’ - a group of staff & volunteers - led by Music Therapist Beth Clark.

Warm beverages, delicious snacks and comfort food (soups & grilled cheese sandwiches) kept the group well fed.   Thank you to our food & beverage donors:  HY Louie; Superior Produce; Windset Farms; Tin Lizzy Doughnuts; and Van Houtte coffee.

Special guests included Canuck Place Children’s Hospice’s visionary founder Brenda Eng and founder Joanne Griffiths.    However the guest of honour was none other than Santa & Mrs. Claus – who provided each child with a wonderful gift!    Gifts & toys were generously provided by Yvette & Mark Smith, Oakridge Centre and RBC.

As guests departed, they were presented with festive poinsettias courtesy of Meadowlands Horticultural Inc.    Kudos as well to Watt’s Costumes and Pedersen’s Rentals for their support of the event.

Thank You to all our donors and the Canuck Place volunteers for their support of this wonderful event.  Happy Holidays!
