Fraser Valley raises Canuck Place flags to celebrate National Hospice Palliative Care Week

Abbotsford/Chilliwack/Langley - What a way to kick off National Palliative Care Week! On May 4, 2012, Mayor of Abbotsford Bruce Banman and Abbotsford City Council raised flags for Canuck Place Children’s Hospice and Abbotsford Hospice Society, followed by three more ceremonies in Langley City, Langley Township and Chilliwack.

“We thank the Mayors, the Councils and the cities of Abbotsford, Langley and Chilliwack for recognizing the importance of hospice palliative care in our province as well as the programs and services of the Dave Lede Campus of Care, where the second Canuck Place Children’s Hospice will be housed,” says Marg McNeil, CEO, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. “It is our hope that the raising of these flags will build further awareness of palliative care, and the vital role it plays for the many children, families and adults in BC who are facing life-threatening illnesses.”

“We are very fortunate to have Canuck Place Children’s Hospice and Abbotsford Hospice Society serving the community of Abbotsford,” said Mayor Bruce Banman. “We've raised these two flags in recognition of the many people they have helped over the years, and to the dedicated services these two organizations continue to provide to families in Abbotsford.”

“We at the City of Langley are pleased to support Canuck Place Children’s Hospice and all Hospice organizations by raising a flag in honour of National Hospice Palliative Care Week,” stated Mayor Peter Fassbender.  “Most all of us have experienced some form of loss in our lives and we recognize and appreciate the many benefits provided through the various Hospice programs, both for those in care and for their loved ones.”

“The City of Chilliwack is honoured to be a part of National Hospice Palliative Care Week,” said Mayor Sharon Gaetz. “Hospice provides vital support to those with life limiting illness and their families and friends. The extension of Canuck Place in Abbotsford will ensure children and their families living in the Fraser Valley can access world class health care closer to home.”
