Earlier this month, a friendly wager between business associates Neil Johansen of HSBC and Kevin McElroy of Nuheat Industries helped raise funds for Canuck Place. Challenging their physical endurance, they raced up the Grouse Grind to determine the fastest time between them. But there’s a catch – serving as a race equalizer, Kevin, who's 10 years Neil's junior, had to carry a 5lb fish and spot a 10 minute head start.
At the finish, Kevin and his fish snatched the victory and bragging rights, completing the Grind in 38 minutes, an impressive 3 minutes ahead of his fishless and slightly demoralized competitor. While Kevin's time did not threaten the recently set 25:25 course record, the event was a lot of fun and helped raise $700 to benefit Canuck Place Children's Hospice.
