2010 Teen Retreat Camp
Novel approach brings teens and families together

Teen – Family Camp 2010

This spring’s Teen Camp uniquely combined the aspects of going to camp with supportive counselling sessions for the teens and their families.

The "Teen Retreat Camp" held over a 5-day period at the end of April in Squamish welcomed 14 Canuck Place teens.  The teen’s families participated in the final two days of the retreat.

This year’s theme was ‘Pave Your Way’ and featured therapeutic sessions, psycho-educational opportunities, and fun, adventure-filled recreational activities such as trail rides, swimming, and shooting pellet guns.  The teens also participated in games, t-shirt decorating, song writing and campfire sing-alongs.  View photos

A Canuck Place teen faces many challenges that centre around development of self-image, independence / dependence, family and peer relationships, health and health care systems, career planning and the transition to adulthood.

The retreat offered teens with progressive life-threatening conditions and their families recreational, therapeutic and psycho-educational opportunities to support the youth with advocacy, independence and ultimately assist them transition to adulthood.

Thank you to all the Canuck Place families, staff & volunteers who participated.

Thank you also to all the partners & donors, such as Shaw, whose support made the Teen Retreat Camp possible.
