When a child in British Columbia is diagnosed with a progressive, life-limiting illness, Canuck Place can provide pediatric palliative care services for both the child and the entire family
Palliative care is planned and delivered through the collaborative efforts of an interdisciplinary team that includes the child, family, caregivers and service providers.
Our preferred practice is to meet with families as early as possible in the progression of the illness, to get to know and understand the preferences and unique circumstances of the individuals we are caring for. All children and families in the Canuck Place program have a personalized care plan developed by the interdisciplinary team in consultation with the family.
Our care team includes highly trained pediatric palliative care physicians on call 24 hours a day, registered nursing care 24 hours a day and a comprehensive array of other specialists in a variety of disciplines.
