Andrew Peller shares with Canuck Place

Precious Pages: The Personal Way to Help the Kids

Andrea Horton knows a challenge. Last year she entered the Ironman Canada competition, a gruelling race that included a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km bike course and a 42.2 km run. With it, she added another challenge: raise $5,000 to help the kids and families at Canuck Place.

Training for the triathlon meant hours and days of hard work, but Andrea soon discovered a quick and easy way to meet her fundraising challenge. She set up an online Precious Page through www.canuckplace.org by uploading a personal story and photo of herself in training. Then, she sent out e-vites to friends and family to visit her page and make a donation in support of her goals.

”I knew I wanted to do some fundraising as part of my Ironman experience, but I didn't have a lot of time to put into it,” said Andrea. “It was so easy to set up the page and send out e-mails and links to friends. I think it only took about 20 minutes and within hours of my first e-mail I was well on my way to my initial goal of $5,000. The rewarding feeling I got from seeing the money come into Canuck Place was wonderful!” On August 28th, after a grueling 14 hours, 40 minutes and 57 seconds of swimming, biking and running, Andrea crossed the finish line at the 2008 Ironman Canada. Her fundraising total, raised in just minutes, was $12,000 approximately – more than double her original goal!

We salute Andrea for her hard work, determination and willingness to challenge herself on behalf of the kids at Canuck Place.
