On Tuesday, December 8th our partners TEAM 1040, QMFM 103.5, TEAM 1410 and the BEAT 94.5 join forces to host the 2009 Day of Giving Radiothon to benefit Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.

Tune in to hear many compelling stories about Canuck Place from families, donors, staff and volunteers.

Remembering Our Children

A very special reception and memorial service for bereaved Canuck Place families was recently held in honour of their children.  The memorial featured reflections in music and song.  

Following the service, family members returned to the gardens of Canuck Place that had candle-lit lanterns each of which was labeled with the name of the child who was being remembered.   Upon finding their child’s lantern, families spent time reflecting and sharing stories prior to taking home their light.   Many siblings had also created their own luminaries which were on display.   The glowing lights made by volunteers lining the pathways, along with the soothing sounds of a harp and the flowing water from our new water feature, added to the tranquility of the night.

Thank you to all the families who participated and the staff & volunteers who supported the evening.

A record $900,000 raised at the 2009 Gift of Time Gala

Held October 29th at the Westin Bayshore, Vancouver, the Gift of Time featured many unique ways for the 600 guests to generously support the BC children and families on the Canuck Place program.

A touching feature of the evening was the emotional presentation by the Fishman family. This marked the first time that a sibling of a Canuck Place child had spoken about their experience and everyone at the event was visibly touched.

The spectacular evening concluded with Chantal Kreviazuk taking the stage with her cellist and violinist for an intimate concert.

We are honoured and grateful to all those who appreciate the value of ‘embracing life’ and contributed to this unprecedented result. Canuck Place relies heavily on community support for provision of its valuable services to children and their families and this event really does help ensure this is possible.
