2015 Gift of Love Gala a Success

February 13, 2015

This is the now. The moment you are in. Live it well with a loving heart. Savour Life.

Canuck Place Children’s Hospice hosted the inaugural Gift of Love Gala at the Ramada Plaza Abbotsford Hotel and Conference Centre on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Presented by a caring community partnership between Aldergrove Financial Group, Envision Financial and Prospera Credit Union, the event raised over $210,000 to fund operations at BC’s recognized provincial palliative care provider to over 560 children and families across the province.

We were overwhelmed by the generous and enthusiastic welcome we received in Abbotsford, and look forward to hosting future events in the Fraser Valley.

The evening was hosted by MC and Breakfast Television Co-Host, Riaz Meghji, and kicked off with the MEI Screaming Eagles – a high-spirited 80-musician high school marching band from Abbotsford. Guests also enjoyed nine-year-old singing sensation, Tyson Venegas who worked the stage in front of a sold-out crowd.

Canuck Place CEO, Margaret McNeil, gave a passionate speech, sharing stories of love witnessed within the walls of Canuck Place. Following the event she expressed her gratitude to the local community.

For all of the kids and families in this province who need our care, the Fraser Valley community powerfully demonstrated their support at the Gift of Love Gala to help us continue the complex clinical care these children and families so desperately need,” she said. “Our spirits are lifted by the overwhelming response.”

Canuck Place mom and Fraser Valley resident, Amanda Sidhu, shared her love of daughter Kaitlyn, the entire Sidhu family was in attendance, and Amanada spoke beautifully about her experience at Canuck Place.

“Words cannot describe how it felt to finally have someone to talk to, to understand our feelings, and our fears of what the future may hold… But most of all, this is when we were able to fully understand that every moment we have is precious and to cherish the now. Not to worry too much about the future. That is why the words savour life means so much”

Following speeches and entertainment, Greg Rollo from Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers paired with Meghji to energize the ballroom of over 300 guests, encouraging our generous donors to invest in an Advanced Practice Nurse.

Thank you once again to everyone who helped make our very first Gift of Love Gala a memorable success.
