Bieksa’s Buddies unite to play some hockey and raise some money!
Kevin Bieksa and several Vancouver Canucks, including Dan Hamhuis, Henrik and Daniel Sedin and Cory Schneider, were just looking for some rink time and a few guys to play. On October 17, the UBC Thunderbirds answered their call, and a charity game was held at the Doug Mitchell Arena in support of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, the Canucks Autism Network and the Canucks Family Education Centre.
The game sold out almost immediately after tickets went on sale, with proceeds going to the three charities. An impressive $100,000 was raised, with BC native and international superstar Michael Buble matching that amount and kicking in another $100,000 to make the total an incredible $200,000. Buble did his part by coaching alongside Willie Mitchell, Ryan Kesler, Alex Edler and Jason Garrison. The final score was 8-7 for the Buddies – but who’s counting?
Huge thank you to Kevin Bieksa, Michael Buble and everyone involved in Bieksa’s Buddies! We are grateful for your dedication to the children and families in BC.
