Canuck Place Children’s Hospice has released its first ever collection of musical favourites on a lullaby album called “Nestled in Dreams.”
“At Canuck Place, our pediatric palliative care program offers more than nursing support and clinical care,” said Margaret McNeil, CEO. “We provide opportunities for children and families to express themselves through music and play therapy. I am so proud of our music therapy program and the positive impact it has on both children and families.”
Music therapy is integrated into the programming at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice to support a wide range of needs. Canuck Place music therapist Beth Clark explained, “Children, youth and families involved with palliative care have a range of needs often related to symptom management, emotional expression, spirituality and legacy creation. Music therapy provides unique ways to address these needs, such as active music making, relaxation, songwriting and recording.”
“’Nestled in Dreams’ is a compilation of songs that are favourites of both parents and kids at Canuck Place,” said Kathryn Nicholson, former music therapist and counselor at the hospice. “They are songs that we’ve sung in small groups and at bedsides. The recording was funded by private donations, and most of the musicians are friends of mine who gave their time and talents at no cost. We are thrilled to release this album and hope everyone enjoys it!”
