ABBOTSFORD, BC – April 29, 2015 – The Children’s Oral Care Centre announced today their sponsorship of two offices in Canuck Place Children’s Hospice’s second provincial location in Abbotsford.

Locally owned and operated with an Abbotsford-based dentistry team, The Children’s Oral Care Centre has pledged to support two office spaces in the Abbotsford facility. Canuck Place has allocated these two offices to meet the needs of the ever growing role played by Clinical Nurse Specialists to provide pediatric palliative consultations in the region. This need for these support service continues to increase as these specialized nurses are called upon regularly to provide consults at the hospice, in hospital and community health care settings and in family homes.

“Supporting the community, and especially children, is very important to me and my family,” said Dr. Phoebe Tsang of The Children’s Oral Care Centre. “As I’ve learned more about the mission and impact of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice and what they are offering to families in the Fraser Valley, I think they are very much aligned with our practice philosophies – care and comfort for children.  That’s why I wanted to support their work. These offices will be important in delivering care to children who are on the Canuck Place program and I’m pleased to be able to play a role.”

Currently in phase two of a four-phase opening plan, the Abbotsford location is providing community-centred services to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. These services include visits by physicians, nurses and counsellors in hospitals and homes, individual and group grief and loss support, as well as recreation therapy for children and families registered in the program.

“Forty-six percent of the children and families registered on the Canuck Place program reside in the Fraser Valley health region,” said Margaret McNeil, Canuck Place CEO. “Our partners in the local community, such as Dr. Tsang and The Children’s Oral Care Centre, are truly instrumental in helping us to provide the complex clinical care and programs necessary for children and families located in the area.”

The Children’s Oral Care Centre is also a proud sponsor of the Sevenoaks LEGO® Creative Challenge supporting Canuck Place Children’s Hospice on the weekend of September 26-27.
