Current Volunteer Opportunities

Our Vancouver location is currently recruiting:

Maintenance Volunteer

Maintenance Volunteers work with our Facilities Manager and Coordinators on a variety of projects to help preserve the beauty of our house. These volunteers assist with paint touch ups, furniture repairs, annual Lighting of the House, event set up and various other duties.

Maintenance Volunteer shifts are currently Tuesday – Thursday with flexible hours.

Experience in this type of work is required.

Housekeeping Volunteer

Housekeeping Volunteers work with our Housekeeping Coordinator and housekeepers on a variety of light housekeeping duties to help preserve the beauty of our Hospice facility.

Shifts are Monday-Sunday from 9am-1pm or 1pm-5pm.

Garden Volunteer

Garden Volunteers work to maintain the beautiful gardens that surround Canuck Place. Headed by a master gardener, the Garden Crew supports creating an environment for everyone to enjoy.

Garden Volunteer shifts are currently Saturdays from 10:00am-3:00pm.

Experience in this type of work is preferred.

Kitchen Volunteer

Kitchen Volunteers provide support to the kitchen staff by assisting with baking, some preparation of meals and cleaning in the kitchen and dining room areas.

The Kitchen Volunteer plays a huge part in helping to keep this is a warm and welcoming place that provides the families with the comforts of home.

Kitchen shifts are Monday-Sunday from 10am-2pm and 3pm-7pm.

It is required that all Kitchen Volunteers have Food Safe Level I Certification and a current Hepatitis A Vaccination.

Our Abbotsford location is currently recruiting:

Family Volunteer

Family Volunteers work with the Peer Volunteers and the professional care team to enhance the quality of life of the child with a progressive, life-threatening illness and his/her siblings while at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.

Family volunteers accompany children during activities, in the school room, working with arts and crafts, and on outings in the community. Additionally Family volunteers are a source of support and guidance to Peer Volunteers.

Family Volunteer shifts are currently Friday – Sunday from 9:00am-1:00pm, 1:00pm-5:00pm and 5:00pm-9:00pm.

 

Peer Volunteer

Peer Volunteers work with the Family Volunteers and the professional care team to enhance the quality of life of the child with a progressive, life-threatening illness and his/her siblings while at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.

The Peer Volunteer is a companion to children from creating arts and crafts to playing computer & board games. Peer volunteers are a source of fun, encouragement and support!

Peer Volunteer shifts are currently Friday – Sunday from 9:00am-1:00pm, 1:00pm-5:00pm and 5:00pm-9:00pm.

One must be a minimum age of 16 to apply.

 

Kitchen Volunteer

Kitchen Volunteers provide support to the kitchen staff by assisting with baking, some preparation of meals and cleaning in the kitchen and dining room areas.

The Kitchen Volunteer plays a huge part in helping to keep this is a warm and welcoming place that provides the families with the comforts of home.

Kitchen Volunteer shifts are currently Friday – Sunday from 9:30am-2:30pm and 2:30pm-6:30pm.

It is required that all Kitchen Volunteers have Food Safe Level I Certification and a current Hepatitis A Vaccination.

Reception Volunteer

Office Reception Volunteers assist with reception & switchboard duties for Canuck Place during the evenings and weekends.

The Office Reception Volunteer is a pleasant, articulate first contact for the guests, visitors and callers to Canuck Place where you perform office support as needed.

Reception Volunteer shifts are currently Friday – Sunday from 9:00am-1:00pm, 1:00pm-5:00pm and 5:00pm-9:00pm.

Each week, approximately 100 volunteers work at the Hospice, providing a wide range of assistance. Their contributions are immense, and without them Canuck Place would not operate the way it does.

The work performed by our volunteers allows Canuck Place to maximize the revenues it can put into clinical care and other front-line services that directly benefit our children and families.
