November 2, 2017

Over 600 guests gathered at Vancouver’s Westin Bayshore Hotel on Saturday, October 14th to support Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, BC’s pediatric palliative care provider, at the 13th annual Gift of Time Gala presented by the Ledcor Group of Companies.

Hosted by Global BC’s Chris Gailus and sold out months in advance, Canuck Place supporters including guests, sponsors, volunteers, board members and staff came together and raised a new record total of $1.24 million to support the complex care of BC’s children with life-threatening illnesses and the families who love them.

Gala Co-Chairs, Emily Lazare and Shanni Eckford led a creative and passionate volunteer gala and wine committee who were pivotal to the success of the event.

Canuck Place parent, Maureen Laforge, whose daughter Angela passed away on the Canuck Place program, spoke eloquently to a captivated audience, of the critical care they received from Canuck Place.

“We entered Canuck Place and found a team that calmed the storms for our whole family with their love, compassion, dedication and expertise,” said Maureen. “For the first time in a long time, we could catch our breath. Time seemingly slowed down. Now our time was experienced in moments, moments we could savour together.” Her words deeply resonated and articulated the special care families receive at Canuck Place. Moved with emotion, the audience showed their support with a standing ovation.

Patrick Roberge Productions teamed up with Simon Cooksley Design to create a bold, modern event experience with sophisticated, geometric elements and touches of industrial metals. Guests were entertained by the contemporary arrangements of The Musical Occasions String Quartet and were treated to timeless black and white portraiture courtesy of The Collective You. The energy in the room was lively with an exciting live auction with Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, extending into the night with attendees crowding the dance floor thanks to the music of DJ Marvel.

The Gift of Time Gala has raised over $10 million for Canuck Place children and families in the past 13 years. All funds raised support the delivery of pediatric palliative care through the Canuck Place provincial program.
