With a prior career in medicine for children and families, volunteering at Canuck Place was a natural fit for David Hoag. “One of the enjoyments of being a volunteer is to bring happiness to each child you are with and make their day a little better,” says David. “If I can do that, I leave my shift happier and with a good feeling in my heart.”
Looking back, David reflects upon a few memorable moments at Canuck Place that have left a lasting impression on him. One memory that stands out involves a child who had never been able to experience the thrills of being on a swing. “I knew with help we could make this child’s wish come true,” said David, who used the support of a nurse and a mechanical lift to grant this simple wish. “All the smiles and feelings of joy were well worth the effort that day.”
David also has the pleasure of spending time in our school room – an area that holds great importance to Canuck Place. He has even provided a helping hand to a few teens over the years who were determined to accomplish their dream of finishing high school before their passing. Thank you David for all that you do for the children and families at Canuck Place.
